Revolutionizing Patient Monitoring with IoT and RTLS Technology

Transformed ED monitoring
Search

Healthcare innovation has reached new heights with the integration of IoT (Internet of Things) and RTLS (Real-Time Location Systems) technologies, delivering a transformative solution for patient monitoring in Clinical Emergency Departments (ED).

Our groundbreaking solution EMERGENT integrates real-time patient location tracking with continuous vital sign monitoring, using advanced medical wristbands to ensure safety, efficiency, and timely intervention.

The Emergent Solution:
A Game-Changer in Patient Care

The solution focuses on enhancing care delivery in critical environments, such as emergency departments, intensive care units, oncology day units, and nursing homes. Its cornerstone is the EMERGENT medical wristband, which continuously tracks patients’ vital signs while pinpointing their exact location. By linking these capabilities, healthcare teams can respond rapidly to drastic changes in a patient’s condition or unauthorized movement, such as an attempt to leave the ward.

A ‘live’ platform provides medical staff with a comprehensive overview of patient locations and health statuses, streamlining patient flow management and enabling more effective allocation of staff resources. The wristbands also support direct patient communication through vibration or LED signals, improving safety and comfort.

Applications Beyond Emergency Departments

While initially deployed in a Clinical Emergency Department, this technology has potential applications in diverse medical settings, including intensive care units, ambulatory care, and even disaster response scenarios where large-scale patient monitoring is critical. It offers a flexible, scalable framework adaptable to a wide range of healthcare needs.

Driving Efficiency Through Automation and Data Analytics

By automating vital sign monitoring and integrating real-time data into medical workflows, the system significantly reduces the risk of errors and optimizes documentation processes. Advanced analytics provide actionable insights, empowering healthcare providers to improve care quality while controlling costs.

Key Benefits of the Solution

Clinical Trials and Market Readiness

The system is currently undergoing clinical trials, with its first deployment at the Clinical Emergency Department of the University Clinical Centre (UCK) set for February.

This implementation will monitor patient flow in critical areas, including entrances, corridors, and waiting rooms, marking a significant milestone in the technology’s journey toward market readiness.

Funding and Future Prospects

The project has been internally funded and will gain further traction through its deployment at UCK as part of a modernization initiative. Once trials are complete, the system is poised to revolutionize healthcare operations on a larger scale, paving the way for a safer, more efficient, and technology-driven future in patient care.

EMERGENT is not just a solution—it’s a bold step toward redefining how healthcare institutions manage patient safety, staff efficiency, and operational costs in the age of IoT. This innovation demonstrates the incredible potential of integrating real-time data and automation in delivering superior medical outcomes.
